NASSAU, THE BAHAMAS, February 16, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Trinidadian Brian Frontin is the newly elected President of the Caribbean Society of Hotel Association Executives (CSHAE).

Frontin, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Trinidad Hotels, Restaurants & Tourism Association (THRTA) and the Trinidad and Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute (TTHTI), disclosed that human capital development, governance and sustainability are the priorities he will tackle as he takes over the reins from seasoned hotel and tourism association executive Stacy Cox of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Over his two-year term, Frontin said "considerable emphasis will be placed on enhancing the profiles of CSHAE and all of its Association Executive (AE) members."

The incoming leader also wants to strengthen the capacity of national hotel and tourism associations (NHTAs) and their staff leadership to increase their value proposition, and to review and redefine the role of CSHAE within the governance framework of the umbrella Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA).

Meeting in The Bahamas, the CSHAE Executive and Board crafted an Action Plan to address priorities and convened working committees to execute various items over the next six months.

Frontin was confident that the CSHAE transformational agenda underway would yield positive results for the benefit of AEs, NHTAs and CHTA.

For his 2020-2022 tenure, President Frontin is supported by an Executive Committee comprising Stacy Cox (Immediate Past President/Chairman), who serves as CEO of the Turks & Caicos Hotel & Tourism Association; Noorani Azeez (Vice President/President-Elect), who is Executive Vice President of the Saint Lucia Hospitality & Tourism Association; Miles B. M. Mercera (Treasurer), CEO of the Curaçao Hospitality & Tourism Association; and Véronique Legris (Secretary), Executive Director of the Saint Martin Hotel Association.

The Executive Committee will be supported by CSHAE Board members Senator Rudy Grant, CEO of the Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association; Tisa LaSorte, CEO & President of the Aruba Hotel & Tourism Association; and Stephen Todd, CEO of the Bermuda Hotel Association.

CSHAE is an independent organization established by CHTA to support the professional development of national hotel and tourism association executives from the 33 CHTA member NHTAs.

The organization serves as a network for the region's associations by supporting the professional development of the staff and voluntary leadership; facilitating the gathering and flow of information; advancing programs in support of regional advocacy and product improvement efforts; and serving as a two-way conduit with CHTA in achieving mutual goals.

CHTA EDUCATION FOUNDATION POISED TO PROVIDE MORE SCHOLARSHIPS AND LOCAL TRAINING IN 2020

CHTAEF is preparing for a strong year of education and training.

MIAMI, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, February 16, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Building on the success of its 2019 training initiatives, the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association Education Foundation (CHTAEF) is planning to expand its hospitality training programs and scholarship support in the Caribbean this year.

On the heels of a strong outcome at the annual New York Times Travel Show fundraising drive, for which CHTA member hotels and resorts generously donated stays for auction, CHTAEF officials report that they are getting ready to roll out professional development and training programs and award scholarships for current and future tourism professionals.

Reflecting on its activities last year, CHTAEF Chairperson Karolin Troubetzkoy reported that the foundation reached more than 750 hospitality professionals in Barbados, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, and Tobago through its on-island training courses.

"The feedback from our colleagues who participated in these trainings was phenomenal, and we look forward to delivering more training in other destinations in 2020," Troubetzkoy said, doffing her cap to long-time sponsors Virgin Holidays and Interval International for prioritizing Caribbean hospitality education and training with their generous support of both the training and the scholarship programs.

In 2018, CHTAEF's board of trustees decided to offer more training opportunities in the region in support of 33 national hotel and tourism associations. The decision to go beyond awarding individual scholarships came with the realization that on-island training would reach more Caribbean tourism industry professionals and assist them in adapting to the ever-changing needs and expectations of global travelers.

Following the launch of a pilot program in 2018 and the subsequent on-island training delivered throughout 2019, property managers reported that they noticed changes in the way many of their team members interacted with guests, displaying more empathy and compassion, which resulted in increased satisfaction scores from visitors.

In 2019, CHTAEF also awarded 20 scholarships to students from Anguilla, Aruba, The Bahamas, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Troubetzkoy noted that scholarship benefactors are gaining hospitality knowledge, training and skills at some of the most prestigious institutions around the globe, including College of Mount Saint Vincent, Cornell University, The Culinary Institute of America, Edinburgh Napier University, Johnson & Wales University, Les Roches, Lynn University, Monroe College, University of Aruba, University of the Virgin Islands, University of the West Indies, and Vatel Hotel & Tourism Business School.

One of CHTAEF's 2019 highlights was inking a partnership with the highly regarded Les Roches Global Hospitality Education in Switzerland, allowing deserving Caribbean students to be trained at the elite institution. "Our partnership with Les Roches presents an excellent opportunity for Caribbean nationals to receive a highly desirable hospitality business degree, gain an entrepreneurial mindset and a global outlook in the process," Troubetzkoy said, adding that as the scholarship recipients grow and develop, they become "future ambassadors" for the Caribbean hospitality industry.

She concluded by expressing her thanks to CHTA member hotels and partners for their donations to assist with hurricane relief efforts in the northern Bahamas.

About CHTA Education Foundation (CHTAEF)
The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association Education Foundation (CHTAEF) was established 30 years ago as a stand-alone 501(c)3 nonprofit, tax-exempt organization, through which scholarships and special assistance are available for the education of Caribbean hotel industry personnel and students pursuing careers in hospitality and tourism. The Education Foundation has awarded more than US$2 million in scholarships and grants to applicants who demonstrate a strong commitment to the hotel and tourism industry. WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, USA, February 15, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Digital Creative Visionaries, a Washington, DC based video production agency, secured a media contract with the Maryland Restaurant Association, prompting a launch of a new company division, DCV | Live, a branch focused on live event video services.

The Restaurant Association of Maryland is the most trusted source for restaurant advocacy, regulatory compliance information, foodservice employee training and restaurant-focused vendors.

The MD Restaurant Association is the organizer of the Maryland ProStart Student Invitational, a part of the national ProStart competition put on by the National Restaurant Association’s Educational Foundation.

The Maryland ProStart Student Invitational is a state-wide team culinary and hospitality management competition where students compete for scholarships and the right to represent the state of Maryland at the National ProStart Invitational. MPSI demonstrates the skills students learned from the ProStart® program, a nationwide, two-year high school program that unites the classroom and industry to develop the best and brightest talent into tomorrow's restaurant and foodservice leaders.

DCV contracted to cover the entire event and beyond, ensuring live broadcasting to the thousands of Maryland families and schools across the state.

“1 in 3 people will have worked in the food and hospitality industry during their life,” said DCV CEO, Shane Yeager. “I’m part of that statistic and proud of it. I think there is no better and more exciting program than ProStart. This needs to be in every school in America and beyond.”

The DCV team also covers the National Competition that is based in Washington, DC. That involves all 50 states and territories.

Securing an additional ProStart venue, in addition to other live events spurred company expansion for the digital agency.

“We decided it was time to grow our agency,” said COO of DCV, Celene Di Stasio. “The numbers made sense, and the demand was there. We are regularly asked to produce live events, being in DC is the culprit of that.”

DCV plans to formally introduce the DCV | Live brand end of Q1, 2020.

BAY GARDENS HOTEL UNDERGOES RENOVATIONS ON 25TH ANNIVERSARY

A newly renovated Junior Executive Suite with King bed with Caribbean blue accents

The Junior Executive Suite with wall-mounted 40″ smart TV and queen size pullout sofa bed

ST. LUCIA, February 14, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Bay Gardens Hotel in St. Lucia has a brand new look for a brand new decade.

Executive Director of Bay Gardens Resorts, the St. Lucian-owned and -operated hotel group, recently unveiled a sneak preview of ongoing renovations of the flagship Rodney Bay hotel as it celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

The "newer, fresher look" is part and parcel of "soft" refurbishments to the higher room categories.

The rooms, which have a modern look incorporating Caribbean blues and corals, also feature new drapery, artwork, cushions, bedside lamps, bedside mats, and bed throws.

In addition, brand new mattresses, wall mounted 40" smart TVs, ceiling fans and AC units have been installed, while bathrooms have been revamped with new, stylish tiling to complete the updated look.

Environmentally friendly soap dispensers have replaced single-use plastic bottles at the group of hotels, which recently took top Environmental Stewardship honors at the 2019 St. Lucia Business Awards. Bay Gardens Hotel, Bay Gardens Inn and Bay Gardens Beach Resort & Spa each earned the prestigious Green Globe Gold Member certification a year ago.

Bay Gardens Resorts also placed runner-up in the Environmental Sustainability category at the 2019 Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association's Caribbean Hospitality Industry Exchange Forum (CHIEF) Awards in Miami last summer.

Bay Gardens Hotel features 87 rooms, including Standard and Superior rooms, and Junior Executive Suites with views of the pool and tropical gardens.

To date, nine Junior Executive Suites and 10 Superior Rooms have been completed to the tune of US $92,500 (EC$250,000). The group has plans to refurbish its 13 remaining Superior Rooms and four remaining Junior Executive Suites by the end of September 2020.

Destang explained that for the dawn of a new decade it was "out with the old and in with the new" for the popular St. Lucia hotel, a favorite amongst North American, European and Caribbean visitors.

"It's a new decade and we will have a distinctively new look," said Destang.

About Bay Gardens Resorts

Whimzy Tees announces an exciting artist collaboration resulting in an exclusive new line of clothing and accessories: Mr Hydde.

Whimzy Tees + Mr Hydde is the perfect marriage of art and fashion. It doesn't get better than this. We both fully embrace this union and collaborate so well. If only all relationships were this easy.”

— Anita Davenport

LOS GATOS, CALIFORNIA, USA, February 14, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Metadata Keyword: Graffiti, Pop Art, Artist Collaboration, Exclusive, Limited Edition, Mr Hydde, RAW Artist, Street Art, Syren, Carnivale, Eclectic, Urban Art, Contemporary Art, Body Art, Face Painting

TAKING IT TO THE STREETS

Last month, Whimzy Tees appeared at a RAW Artist premiere in San Francisco with their wares in tow and a few models to work the floor and showcase their unique prints. Whimzy Tees featured two brand new lines including Syren (graffiti art-based female heroines) and Carnivale (scenes from under the big top) plus a few favorites including their ever-popular Pinup Girls. Sexy was the name of the game and the models were well equipped for exposure, wearing oversized sweatshirts as mini-dresses. Alongside Whimzy's eclectic fashions, other artists also presented their work. The RAW platform provides national exposure for featured artists and also allows for networking opportunities with industry experts as well as other artists.

PRIMED FOR OPPORTUNITY

After a very successful showing and sales of their garments in their mini pop-up store at RAW, Whimzy Tees seized upon the public awareness and reached out to visual artists around the globe for possible collaboration. One such artist, Mr Hydde is the first collaboration of its kind for this uber-unique shop where art is turned into fashion on a daily basis. The partnership will result in new collections (with some already hitting the airwaves) available exclusively at Whimzy Tees for limited engagements only (6 weeks or less). Mr Hydde is a Toronto-based visual artist whose work celebrates pop art and graffiti in paintings for the home and outdoor spaces.

MAKING ART AFFORDABLE

With this collaboration, Whimzy Tees is making art not only wearable but affordable for the masses. As not everyone's budget allows for purchasing original art in the thousands of dollars ($$$$), Whimzy Tees offering of the Mr Hydde collection will allow his fans (current and new) to purchase and make use of his art without breaking the bank. The collaboration while being the first for Whimzy Tees, will not be its last as other collaborations are already in the pipeline. Keep on the look out for collaborations not just with visual artists but with body paint aficionados who will bring their talents to showcasing not just their master of body art application but the illustrations and designs only available at Whimzy Tees.

ABOUT THE COLLECTION

Under the collection moniker, Mr Hydde, there will be several sub-collections built around a particular work of art. The clothing will be entirely designed by Whimzy Tees and sold exclusively in their online store. It's a perfect marriage between similar design styles (pops of bright colors), use of unique shapes/patterns, and Whimzy Tee's new direction brought forth by its graffiti-based Syren collection. An exciting array of clothing options and accessories like travel mugs, laptop sleeves and phone cases will be available for the art collectors among us.

The exclusive sub-collections currently available include: Love You, Prayer in the Dark, and Okinawa FLOWRZ. The Mr Hydde collection on Whimzy Tees features elements of modern art, pop art, and graffiti art to reflect the sensibilities of both entities. Mr Hydde, a pseudonym for the Toronto artist, has expressed a love for Whimzy Tee's “design brilliance” and how they're able to take his original works and expound on them with coordinating colors and contrasting patterns and create new expressions of art. These art-based collections are available for a limited time with this first set closing come March 15, 2020. At such time, new collections will roll out and the campaign will be capped off by an auction of one-of-a-kind hoodies from the aforementioned groupings for the avid art collector.

THE COLLABORATIVE SPIRIT

The new Mr Hydde @ Whimzy Tees collection captures the collaborative spirit of this new artist partnership. Fans of Whimzy Tees are already familiar with their enthusiasm for vintage and modern art styles. Many of their clothes and accessories boast a dazzling spectrum of color and pattern. All of the designs available in their online store accentuate their love for bold color combinations and unconventional pattern pairings. The result is a line that brims with shades of violet, blue, and orange as well as Picasso-esque shapes and patterns that lend a marvelously dizzying aesthetic to each item.

Shop for items in this collection such as sweatshirts, tees, mugs, scarves, dresses, and more. Many of the items are unisex. As with all Whimzy Tees purchases, a portion (5%) of each sale goes to one of six charities of the purchasers' choosing. Take time to explore this exciting new collection that’s currently available on the Whimzy Tees website.

GETTING AHEAD OF THE CURVE

Whimzy Tees continues to set itself apart from its competitors with its focus on incorporating vibrantly-colored art, a mis-match of patterning (sometimes combining four or more patterns/backgrounds into one garment); and sourcing non-mainstream designs. Because items are made to order and not mass produced or warehoused, Whimzy Tees is able to keep its carbon footprint small and offer fresh selections every few weeks. A love of art and artistic expression is clear throughout their store; and of course, a love of all things whimsical. They believe clothing should not only be practical but fun as evidenced by their Dog Dayz, Carnivale, and Cat-e-chism lines. It's textile/applied arts on steroids that appeals to a particular niche market who appreciates art, bold colors, and unique patterning not found elsewhere. And, their new collaboration with Mr Hydde is further testament to their eye to the unusual…the unique…the colorful world that is art.

New Civil Rights Trail Sites from Kansas to Washington DC

We are delighted about the additions of the Muhammad Ali Center, the SEEK Museum, Beale Street Historic District and WDIA to the U.S. Civil Rights Trail.”

— Lee Sentell, director of the Alabama Tourism Department

ATLANTA, GA, USA, February 13, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — New Civil Rights Trail sites were announced by the USCRT Marketing Alliance, which is made up of 14 state tourism departments, Destination DC, leaders from the National Park Service and historians. In 2018, the Marketing Alliance formed and launched CivilRightsTrail.com ( https://civilrightstrail.com/ ), featuring approximately 120 sites between Topeka, Kansas, and Washington, D.C., that were important to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s.

Four new attractions and one new city have been added to the U.S. Civil Rights Trail (USCRT), officials announced Thursday. These destinations further enrich the trail experience and the story of the Civil Rights Movement, and it is fitting that they have been added during the nation’s celebration of Black History Month

The additions include the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville and the SEEK Museum in Russellville, Kentucky. The trail also added the Beale Street Historic District and WDIA radio station, both in Memphis, Tennessee.

“We are delighted about the additions of the Muhammad Ali Center, the SEEK Museum, Beale Street Historic District and WDIA to the U.S. Civil Rights Trail,” said Lee Sentell, director of the Alabama Tourism Department and chairman of the U.S. Civil Rights Trail Marketing Alliance. “We know they will make incredible additions to the trail as a whole, which continues to showcase how ‘what happened here changed the world.’”

Most recently, the trail was recognized with gold for Best Destination in a Region from the International Travel & Tourism Awards on Nov. 5, 2019. It was also awarded the Mercury Marketing Award on Aug. 20, 2019, for its marketing excellence. In the site’s second year, it achieved 1 million page views.

About the New Sites

Historic Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee, was established in 1841 and is one of the most iconic streets in America. Around the time of the Civil War, it became a thriving area for black commerce and culture. During the Civil Rights Movement, the area was also where African-Americans came to entertain and be entertained, shop, strategize and protest. When city sanitation workers decided to strike in response to deplorable job conditions, they marched down Beale Street, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. came to Memphis in support. The demonstrations were a precursor to his assassination on April 4, 1968.

“The U.S. Civil Rights Trail is a vital ongoing project that tells the stories of the brave men and women who stood up for equal rights,” said Commissioner Mark Ezell, Tennessee Department of Tourist Development and Secretary/Treasurer of the USCRT Marketing Alliance. “Tennessee is honored to be part of keeping civil rights history alive. We are excited the state has two new locations in Memphis on the trail – the Beale Street Historic District and WDIA radio station.”

WDIA was the first radio station in the country programmed entirely for the black community. The station went on air on June 7, 1947, from studios on Union Avenue in downtown Memphis. Not only did the station feature black radio personalities, but it also brought awareness to a relatively new market of listeners. The station’s influence and popularity reached the Mississippi Delta’s dense African-American population, and WDIA’s broadcasts were heard from Missouri to the Gulf Coast, reaching 10 percent of the African-American population in the United States.

The SEEK Museum in Russellville, Kentucky, recognizes the work of journalist Alice Allison Dunnigan with a life-size bronze statue and an exhibit about her achievements. The civil rights pioneer struggled against the twin strikes of racism and sexism to become the first female African-American admitted to the White House, Congressional and Supreme Court press corps. As the Washington correspondent for the Associated Negro Press, she worked with Congress to pass legislation that allowed her to obtain these press credentials in 1947. She then reported on national affairs with a focus on civil rights and other matters that were important to African-Americans. She also served on the president’s Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and worked for several years to enforce compliance of the Civil Rights Acts.

The Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, Kentucky, is a multicultural center with an award-winning museum that captures the inspiration of Muhammad Ali’s legendary life. A visit to the center is not just an experience but also a journey into the heart of a champion. Visitors to the center will experience interactive and multimedia exhibits and discover Ali’s six core principles: confidence, conviction, dedication, giving, respect and spirituality. Fueled by these principles, Ali became the best athlete he could be. He also garnered the strength and courage to stand up for what he believed and provided inspiration to millions of people around the world, regardless of ethnicity, religion, culture, gender or age. Located on Museum Row in the heart of downtown Louisville, the Muhammad Ali Center is the only place in the world dedicated to preserving and promoting Ali’s legacy.

About the U.S. Civil Rights Trail

The U.S. Civil Rights Trail is a collection of churches, courthouses, schools, museums and other landmarks primarily in the Southern states where activists challenged segregation in the 1950s and 1960s to advance social justice. Famous sites include the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama; Little Rock Central High School in Arkansas; the Greensboro, North Carolina, Woolworth’s where sit-ins began; the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee; and Dr. King’s birthplace in Atlanta, to name a few. The people, locations and destinations included in the Civil Rights Trail provide a way for families, travelers and educators to experience history firsthand and tell the story of how “what happened here changed the world.” For details about dozens of significant sites and to see interviews with civil rights foot soldiers, visit CivilRightsTrail.com.

A project that began in 2015 to nominate a few civil rights landmarks as potential UNESCO World Heritage Sites uncovered more than 100 National Park Service sites, National Historic Landmarks, and other highly qualified and recommended sites for consideration to UNESCO. By March 2017, it was obvious that this first ever inventory of important civil rights locations was not inclusive of all the destinations that could be part of a campaign to share the story of freedom. And thus the concept of creating the U.S. Civil Rights Trail was born. Thanks to the leadership of Alabama Tourism Director Lee Sentell, 14 state tourism offices – in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia – and the District of Columbia tourism group joined together to create the U.S Civil Rights Trail Marketing Alliance, LLC, incorporated in Atlanta in October 2017. The website, CivilRightsTrail.com ( https://civilrightstrail.com/ ), was promoted through a licensing agreement with the state of Alabama. Travel South USA, a nonprofit marketing organization, serves as the no-fee business office for the Alliance, and the agency of record for the Alliance is Luckie & Company with offices in Birmingham, Alabama, and Atlanta, Georgia.
