A scene of quiet solitude, some of Chagall's most famous and striking symbolic references are seen here in "Amoureux au bouquet de dahlias.” No stranger to paintings with lovers and details referencing fertility, a part of this piece that differentiates is the central focus of the flowers. Beautiful red and yellow dahlias swing relaxed in a vase, instead of bringing the couple to the center of attention. Perhaps this center of focus reflects the beauty of a moment, where the sun hits in the room. By bringing the flowers to the center of attention, Chagall concentrates on the raw aspect of love, the intimacy of a moment lying next to a loved one. And as if in Chagall's headspace, in the top left is the image of a rooster with a figure lying down, suggesting a daydream of Chagall reliving loving memories of home. Set in his iconography, and rooted within his background, Chagall's references to Vitebsk and religion are always apparent. A perfect work for collectors of the artist's most popular subject matter – lovers and flowers.

Also included in the exhibition is "Lovers in Bouquet of Dahlias," a watercolor created in 1971 with, tempera, pastel, color pencil and pencil on heavy vellum paper. Chagall's originality lay in his very personal synthesis of the influences he seized on from all sides.

The rivalry between Salvador Dalí and Pablo Picasso resulted in some of the 20th century's most recognizable art. Both artists are regarded as members of the "Spanish Avant-Garde" Dalí's work entitled "Caracol de Mar," a gouache and ink on cardstock, depicts a sculptural seashell as a magic toy arising from the sea and an angel caressing a Christmas tree from our dreams.

Caracol de Mar was completed in 1976 and loaned to the Dalí Museum, Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation in 2000.

The Corps Perdu series was created by Picasso to illustrate Aime Cesaire’s book of poetry Corps Perdu (The Lost Body), published in 1950. Picasso, however, also knew Cesaire personally. Picasso and Cesaire met at the World Congress of Intellectuals for Peace in 1948. They discovered a shared interest in politics, art, and some of the ideas underlying surrealism—namely, the idea of a powerful unconscious mind. Picasso's illustrations in Corps Perdu strive to find the intersection of the African diaspora and Picasso's art. The engraving with burin was used by printmakers to create sharp, crisp lines on the etching plate, which translated into the same on the printed image.

PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD, March 2, 2020 / — The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) congratulated Bahamian Marv Cunnigham for winning last weekend's 10th ANGOSTURA Global Cocktail Challenge (AGCC) in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

The event, which was held at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad on Saturday, saw the Taste of the Caribbean Hall of Fame Inductee eclipse eight competitors for the global title and a cash prize of US$10,000. Cunningham also earned a two-year contract to serve as the ANGOSTURA Global Brand Ambassador, showcasing ANGOSTURA bitters and rum products to international audiences.

Vanessa Ledesma, CHTA's Chief Operations Officer, said the victory helps to propel the Caribbean food and beverage industry. "Marv is the epitome of Caribbean passion and excellence, and we are thrilled that the region emerged victorious in this global competition," she said.

The Bahamian mixologist wowed the judges with a 'Mas-Curried' rum cocktail and an Amaro cocktail entitled 'Amaro Bank Burst'. In addition to winning the overall title, Cunningham also won the award for Best Rum Cocktail.

Cunningham, who has been bartending for more than 20 years, is a two-time winner of CHTA's Taste of the Caribbean Best Caribbean Bartender award as a member of the team from The Bahamas, winning in 2015 and 2016 before returning to judge the competition in 2017.

He said winning the challenge meant a lot for the Caribbean. "It goes to show that we have the talent here, we have gifted bartenders here, not just bartenders but a gifted people in general and we belong," he said.

He credited the Taste of the Caribbean regional competition and educational experience and the Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association's national competition for helping him reach this pinnacle in his career. "Being able to provide a platform for bartenders in the region to compete against each other to help develop themselves, to help further (develop) their skills. It is a great feeling and I'm very (grateful) to CHTA and Taste of the Caribbean for what they have done because they are more about teaching. Getting a medal is okay, but at the end of the day this is what counts – that development aids in things like this."

Also competing in the challenge was 2018 Caribbean Bartender of the Year, Shana Rajahram of Trinidad and Tobago, who said it was an honor to represent female bartenders around the world and to reach such a high level of competition and excellence.

This year's Taste of the Caribbean will be held from June 26-30, 2020, at Hyatt Regency Miami. The event features top culinary teams from Caribbean nations and territories competing for recognition and awards.

As the incense catches fire and smokes start to linger creating a unique aroma, the fusion of earth, fire, water and air is now complete. While a little prayer is spoken softly, the smokes carry the essences of the offerings up to the Gods. This serves its purposes of gratitude and sacrifices by the Hindu Balinese, and, if you see a small amount of money and food such as candies or cookies placed on the Canang Sari, this is symbolised as to give back what one has received.

The headlines and sensational reporting on the Coronavirus has gripped the world in fear as citizens of more and more countries are getting infected and the numbers continue to climb. As of February 24th 2020, there are a reported 79,737 confirmed cases internationally and 2,628 deaths.

While the coronavirus is a very contagious pandemic, it’s actually not much more dangerous than the common flu and the global panic is largely unwarranted. Just like a regular flu, the majority of infected people will make a full recovery and 25,271 of the confirmed 79,737 cases have already recovered. Deaths via COVID-19 are mainly in the infirm and elderly; sadly common with any strain of flu.

The coronavirus is believed to have originated in the wet markets of Wuhan, China early in 2020 which is where the vast majority of cases have been contained in a strict quarantine by the Chinese government.

While the majority of the world is largely unaffected, China is a different story. Even outside of Wuhan, normally bustling cities are seemingly deserted and empty with citizens choosing to stay home and wait out the pandemic rather than go to work or school and risk infection.

Some provinces expect school to be back up and running as early as mid March but many TEFL teachers already in China speculate that there’s a high possibility of things remaining closed until as late as mid April. Some schools are continuing classes online where teachers and students can connect via apps. The Chinese government has mandated that all employees have to be paid their full salary during the outbreak regardless of how many work days are missed which is great news for teachers currently in China.

Hiring of more TEFL teachers in China has been largely halted but it’s expected to resume in full swing once the worst of the COVID-19 outbreak is over. The TEFL industry in most other countries has been largely unaffected with the exceptions of Korea and Japan where the toll for those infected with the coronavirus is steadily on the rise. Vietnam is also starting to see a climb in confirmed COVID-19 infections.

Asia still has many other great options for those wishing to teach abroad like Thailand and Indonesia to name a couple. There are also tons of TEFL jobs In European countries like Spain and the Czech Republic. Latin America is also untouched by the coronavirus.

Despite the current damage COVID-19 has wreaked on the Chinese economy, it’s not to say that China’s TEFL industry has completely shut down. Where one industry comes to a halt, another ramps up to fill the void left in the market and that’s where online teaching comes in.
