Currently streaming for free on YouTube and JoelBryant.net, the 75-minute film, shot from March 17th through April 10th, 2020 and entirely on an iPhone, delivers an eerie view of what America looks like when it literally shuts down.

In addition, 134 still photographs Bryant snapped of deserted cityscapes from across the country were acquired by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History as permanent selections for the COVID-19 Digital Photography Collection.

Some of the iconic locations Bryant chronicled include Times Square (New York), Bourbon Street (New Orleans), Mall of America (Minnesota), Venice Beach (Los Angeles), Pike Place (Seattle), Fisherman's Wharf (San Francisco), Boston Common, National Mall (DC), and the Stockyards (Fort Worth).

As a peripatetic entertainer whose shows were all cancelled when the pandemic hit, Bryant lost his career, his house and his roots all in one day. "I literally had nowhere to go and nothing to do. I love a good road trip and thought I'd just drive from LA to NY and back. As I was planning out my route I started thinking: I wonder what these places look like shut down? I had no time crunch so that became the impetus for my Empty America journey,” explains Bryant.

Bryant released the film online for free with the purpose of raising awareness and funds for COVID relief charities. He encourages everyone to: eat locally, shop locally, support the arts; and suggests five charities that help to accomplish this mission, including: ActorsFund.org,

Although the project marks his first photography effort and first documentary film, Bryant credits his love for travel for helping him mold this acclaimed and unique piece.

Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bryant has called Los Angeles ‘home’ ever since he graduated from Pepperdine University. The talented actor, comedian and host has spent the last few years on the road living nomadically wherever a gig or a getaway would take him. His acting credits include roles in major films, such as The Heartbreak Kid, Valkyrie, Loaded, Gone But Not Forgotten; as well as guest appearances on TV shows like Monk, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, The Defenders, Las Vegas and more. For members of our country’s equine protection community the work of Wild Horse Annie is remembered for her dedication to protecting wild horses. Velma Bronn Johnston was born on March 5, 1912 and later became known as Wild Horse Annie due to her efforts to protect America’s wild horses from mustangers who hunted the horses for commercial purposes.

She is also recognized for her grassroots work to stop the decimation of mustangs and free-roaming burros from public lands. She was able to generate public support for the horses and burros through public appearances and the help of school children through letter writing campaigns. Newspapers published articles about the exploitation of wild horses and burros and the school children wrote letters to the Congress and Senate. As noted by the Associated Press on July 15, 1959: "Seldom has an issue touched such a responsive chord."

Velma Johnston worked to fight for protection of the free-roaming horses throughout Nevada and across all the federal lands in the west and is remembered by today’s wild horse advocates who still continue her work on state and federal levels to protect America’s free-roaming wild horses and burros.

Free virtual program with Director of the African American Program Mr. Black featuring the award winning "From Slavery to Freedom" exhibit at the Center.

CAMP HILL, PA, UNITED STATES, March 31, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Join the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation as we welcome Samuel Black, Director of the African American Program at the Senator John Heinz History Center. Mr. Black also serves as the Project Director for the award winning From Slavery to Freedom exhibit at the Center.

The Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation (PPFF), the only non-profit whose mission is to inspire stewardship of Pennsylvania’s state parks and forests, is hosting a free virtual presentation about the From Slavery to Freedom exhibit on Monday, April 5, 2021 at noon.

The free presentation will stream live to PPFF’s Facebook page and YouTube channel on April 5 and will be available to view any time after on those same platforms.

Viewers will be engaged in a presentation by Mr. Black, exploring the exhibit, discussing how it relates to parks and forests, and learning more about the From Slavery to Freedom garden project.

Mr. Black has 28 years of experience in museums and historical institutions. An award winning curator and writer, he has numerous publications, including three books. He serves as Immediate Past President of the Association of African American Museums and has been a member since 1992.

“I look forward to discussing this important exhibit with Mr. Black,” said Marci Mowery, President of the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation. “The exhibit explores the quest for freedom Africans in America from slavery until the 21st century.”

PPFF’s Lunch and Learn series launched in 2020 and provides information on a variety of topics. Past presentations are available to view on PPFF’s Facebook and YouTube Channel. It is supported by a grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Community Conservation and Partnership Program and by Recreational Equipment, Inc.

Rob C. Owens Artistry to be Featured on Close Up Radio

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, UNITED STATES, March 31, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Rob C. Owens is a self-taught portrait artist who has crafted his own unique artistic style: photo-realistic pencil portraits and oil paintings of historically significant icons.

“I try to do things that people can connect with,” says Owens. “What I try to do with my artwork is paint people everyone is familiar with for nostalgia and to get in touch with their character.”

His photorealistic portraits of Prince, President Barack Obama, Malcolm X, Bob Marley and Billie Holiday have won him great acclaim.

Owens comes from a family of artists. Growing up, he admired his mother’s uncanny artistic abilities, discovering his own artistic gifts at the age of six.

Born and raised in Chicago, the city’s influence can be found throughout Owens’s work.

“I absolutely love Chicago. I've been all over the world, but I haven't been anywhere like my hometown,” says Owens. “Ultimately as an artist, I want to tell a story of things that people may not necessarily know. I want people to share a better understanding of my city through our iconography. Chicago is not its crime and violence. Chicago is Michael Jordan, Obama, Oprah. I'm trying to tap into these themes to connect to the area where I live.”

Owens’s painting of Obama is actually the only oil painting he’s held on to for personal reasons.

“That wasn’t a commission,” recalls Owens. “Being of African-American descent, the first black president was a major thing, and I was motivated to capture him in that moment. It’s become one of my more popular images and I've had offers over the years, but I’ve decided to hold on to it. It really reflects how I feel about him being from the South side of Chicago.”

Owens is a firefighter, a therapist, but being a professional artist is his true passion.

“My goal and my legacy, what I'm really trying to do, is leave something positive for the generations of people that come after me,” says Owens. “I just hope I did something to contribute some good to the world. And if people admire me for taking my time out to hone my craft.”
